Vahanavank

Just a 5 kilometers from the city center, on the banks of the Vokhchi River, is Vaanavank, the famous monastery complex of the 10th century. The construction of the monastery was started by Vahan, the son of Prince Dzagik Sunyats, after whom the complex is named.
The construction of this church, named after St. Gregory the Illuminator, was completed in 911.:

In 1086, the wife of Tsar Gregory I of Syunik, Queen Shaandukht, and her sister Kata built the monastery of St. Gregory I at a distance of 25-30 meters from each other. Two-storey Astvatsatsin Church: Tombs have also been preserved in the area.:

Vaanavank has been one of the spiritual and cultural centers of the region for many years. The monumental architecture of the monastery and the magnificent views of the surrounding nature attract all visitors.
