About the MuseumThe Kapan Museum of Local History was founded
in 1969 to preserve, study, and present the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Syunik region to the public. Today, it is considered one of the most interesting and valuable cultural centers in Kapan.
The museum is not only an exhibition venue but also a research center.
Archaeological and historical research is conducted here, alongside academic conferences, thematic events, and educational programs.
ExhibitionsThe museum occupies two floors, each presenting different periods in the history of Syunik.
- The first floor introduces visitors to the history of Syunik in the 19th and 20th centuries. Exhibits include materials related to the Armenian–Tatar clashes, World War I, and the Zangezur self-defense struggle, as well as letters, personal belongings, and rare documents from those times.
- The second floor is entirely dedicated to archaeology. It features ancient clay vessels, stone tools, jewelry, and unique archaeological artifacts discovered throughout the Syunik region.
